There are a host of activities in the local area. The Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye and Usk Valleys mean that most rural activities are available. These include:

hunting, shooting, river and lake fishing (ghillie available), horse riding, paragliding, regular gliding, rock climbing and abseiling, gorge walking & adventure days, rafting, kayaking, Canadian canoeing, archery, caving and potholing, golfing, mountain biking, mountain boarding, off-road driving, orienteering, paint-balling, quad biking, raft building, rally carting, target shooting, mountain walking and mountain skills, clay pigeon shooting, motoring along the wonderful mountain roads or simply sitting on Llandefalle Common under the Red Kites and Buzzards watching the Welsh Mountain Ponies in their natural habitat.

It is recommended that the latter activity be experienced with the following essential equipment: 1 large piece of Welsh cheese, a loaf of the local malted granary bread and at least one fine bottle of red.

From the South (Cardiff, Pembrokeshire etc.)

From Brecon follow the A470 towards Builth Wells and Hay-on-Wye. The A470 magically transforms itself into the A438 about 4 miles from Brecon, follow all signs towards Hay-on-Wye. After by-passing Bronnllys continue for 1.5 miles into Three Cocks still on the A438. Immediately after the Three Cocks Hotel(on your right) turn right and follow the brown signs marked Tregoyd + an horseshoe. This will take you to a T-junction and you will be opposite the Tregoyd Trekking Centre and Tregoyd House PGL Centre. Turn Left, drive for 500 metres and at a cross roads turn right towards Hay Bluff/Capel y Ffyn. This junction is easily identifiable by the blue cast iron Cycle Route signpost. Drive up this road for about 2 miles, past the signpost saying Capel y Ffyn Mountain Road. Carry on up the hill for 1/2 mile and you will see a rusty old railway wagon on your right with a gate next to it. This is the drive way. (If you have gone over a cattle grid you have gone too far.) Drive carefully along the drive and stay right when the concrete track forks off.

From the North (Scotland, Birmingham, Hereford etc.):

From Hay-on-Wye take the B4350 out of town towards Brecon you will drive past the Swan Hotel, bend round a corner and then follow a straight section of road away from Hay. As you approach the end of the straight section of road some 500 yards there is a large lay by on your left and a left turn towards Llanigon. Follow this lane for 2.5 miles passing through Lanigon village and a very wee place called Fforddlas. At a cross roads turn left towards Hay Bluff/Capel y Ffyn. This junction is easily identifiable by the blue cast iron Cycle Route signpost. Drive up this road for about 2 miles, past the signpost saying Capel y Ffyn Mountain Road. From the East (England etc.)

From Abergavenny follow the A40 towards Brecon. After Crickhowell take the right turn onto the A479(this junction is about a mile from Crick and next to a pub called the Nant-y-ffin Cider Mill). Follow the A479 for 10.3 miles to Talgarth. At a roundabout take the second exit and then take the second right turn towards Three Cocks on the A4078. After about a mile you will easily miss a right turn towards Velindre – don’t! Follow this little lane for 3.5 miles passing through Velindre and it’s very amiable drinking pub: The Three Horse Shoes. Drive past Tregoyd PGL Centre on your right and 500 yards later at a cross roads turn right towards Hay Bluff/Capel y Ffyn. This junction is easily identifiable by the blue cast iron Cycle Route signpost. Drive up this road for about 2 miles, past the signpost saying Capel y Ffyn Mountain Road.
